What is a Google Classroom Class Code?
A class code is a unique 6-7 character alphanumeric string (e.g. abc123z) that teachers share with students to let them join a specific class without needing an email invite. It's the fastest way to onboard an entire class at once.

FAQ — Class Codes
Where do I find my Google Classroom class code?
Teachers find the code on the class homepage (Stream tab) below the class name, or under Settings → General → Class code. It's also shown large on-screen when you click the settings gear icon.
How long is a Google Classroom code valid?
Class codes don't expire by default and remain valid indefinitely unless the teacher manually resets/disables them from Class Settings.
Can two classes have the same code?
No, every class code is unique across all of Google Classroom globally — codes are randomly generated and never duplicate.
How do teachers reset a class code?
Go to the class → Settings (gear icon) → click the refresh/reset icon next to the class code → confirm. The old code becomes invalid immediately and a new one is generated.
Can students join a class without a code?
Yes — teachers can directly invite students via email instead of sharing a code. Go to People tab → Invite students → enter their email addresses.
